From that time to the present day, the company has developed a strong position in the market place for filtration equipment and filtration media in various forms from depth filter sheets to high performance cartridges. From the whisk(e)y, wine and brewing industries through to the clarification of fruit juices and filtration in the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries, Carlson Filtration develops, manufactures, markets and distributes a broad range of products to suit all applications.

From the Barnoldswick factory the company distributes products throughout the UK and to over 130 countries through an extensive network of agents and distributors

Company Philosophy

We arrange our business on a number of important principles: OUR MISSION IS:

THE HEALTH AND SAFETY of all our employeees is of prime concern to us. We put this concern into practice by operating within all relevant safety legislation, encouraging our employees to take responsibility for their own safety and by developing a 'health and safety' culture within our company.

OUR APPROACH TO QUALITY is to provide our customers with products which are consistently fit for their intended purpose and we achieve this by operating to ISO9001:2000, developing products to meet the changing requirements of our customers and by encouraging a 'produce it right first time' attitude within our company.

Continued Care

OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE ENVIRONMENT in which we operate is fulfilled by being a good neighbour to the community of Barnoldswick and beyond. We achieve this by ensuring our operations not only conform to all relevant legislation but also by using operating methods which minimise their impact on the environment through continuous investment in modern process control systems.

Carlson still utilise the original Mill built in the 1800s, although the original building has seen a lot of change.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT in all that we do is the approach we use in all our operations. From the way we deal with customer enquiries, through technical development in our laboratories, process development in our factory, right through to product delivery, we are never satisfied. We believe in continuous improvement.

About Barnoldswick

Barnoldswick (colloquially known as Barlick) is a town in Northern England with an approximate population of 12,000, just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is administered as part of the Lancashire district of Pendle, despite being within the historic boundaries of the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Nestling on the lower slopes of Weets Hill in the Pennines, astride the natural watershed between the Ribble and Aire valleys, it is the highest town on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, in-between Clitheroe in Lancashire and Skipton in Yorkshire, and approximately 30 miles from the cities of Leeds, Manchester and Preston.

HISTORY

Barnoldswick dates back to Viking times. It was listed in the Domesday Book as Bernulfsuuick, meaning Bernulf's Town (uuic being an archaic spelling of wick, meaning settlement)

A Cistercian monastery was founded there in 1147 by monks from Fountains Abbey. However they left after six years, before construction was complete, driven out by crop failures and locals unhappy at their interference in the affairs of the local church. They went on to build Kirkstall Abbey. They returned after another ten years to build the isolated church of St Mary-le-Gill close to the Barnoldswick to Thornton in Craven road.

Barnoldswick was historically administered as part of the West Riding of Yorkshire (although Blackburnshire in Lancashire sometimes claimed the area). It was transferred to the administrative jurisdiction of Lancashire by the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974
